So what exactly is Sustainable Energy?

Sustainable energy, also known as green or renewable energy is energy that is needed now, but that is obtained from a source which will not impact on future generations and their ability to produce energy.

There are many types of sustainable energy including solar energy, wind energy, hydroelectricity, tidal energy, geothermal energy and we can even obtain energy from bacteria.

We have already mentioned solar energy here, so let’s take a brief look at some other sustainable energy sources: (more…)

A Bit Of History about Photovoltaic Solar Cells

So What does photovoltaic actually mean?

The word photovoltaic can be broken down into two parts; photo meaning light and voltaic meaning electricity produced by a chemical reaction. Voltaic comes from the name of the the Italian physicist Volta, after whom the volt is named.

How Long Have Photovoltaic Solar Cells Been Around?

It was as far back as 1839 when it was first realised that solar energy could be converted into electrical energy, this was recognised by the French physicist A. E. Becquerel. However it was not until 1883 that the American inventor Charles Fritts created what is now recognised as the first working photovoltaic solar cell. At this time little was known about the physics behind the photovoltaic process, so who should step forward to explain how solar panels work? No less that amazing genius Albert Einstein in 1905, he later (in 1921) received a Nobel prize for his work. (more…)

Your Own Solar Panel – Green DIY Energy Review

house 728x90 Your Own Solar Panel

Today we’ll be reviewing a popular make your own solar panel how to by Green DIY Energy.

The Green DIY solar how to tells you all you need to know to successfully make your own solar panel. The photovoltaic solar panels that it teaches you to make require no special skills and once made will only need the free solar energy provided by the sun in order to start producing your own electricity. Why pay up to $30,000 for solar panels when this guide teaches you how to make them yourself for a fraction of that cost. It will only cost around $200 dollars to have your first solar panel up and running, and if you do a bit of shopping around for the parts it could cost even less than $100. This guide lays the process of building your own solar panel into a step by step process, and provides details of all the equipment you will need. I really don’t consider myself a “technical guy” but I found this guide very straight forward and easy to follow. One of my favourite things about this guide is that it actually made building my own solar panel fun to do, and there is even a video library included which shows real time construction of the solar panels for you to follow along with.

So what are the benefits of choosing this particular solar how to?

  • For starters they offer a 60 day 100% no questions asked refund if you are not entirely satisfied with the product, so you can buy completely risk free!
  • The guide is extremely accurate, well written and easy to follow
  • There is also a video library with some very useful instructive videos
  • The whole guide was written for the complete beginner, so no special skills are required
  • The tools needed can be found in the average garage or toolbox
  • Once built your own solar panel will continue to provide you with free electricity for a very long time

I would say that out of the similar products on the market it is definitely worth looking at the Green DIY Energy solar how to if you have an interest in making you own solar panel and taking that first step towards becoming more self sufficient (and saving some good money while you are at it)!

Solar Panels

Green energy is gaining some serious momentum at the moment and it is no wonder why. With gas and electric prices constantly rising a lot of people are looking for ways to save money on their electricity bills and move more to an “off the grid” lifestyle. There are several ways to provide your own electricity and become more self sufficient, such as wind or hydroelectric energy, but one of the most practical and easy to implement ways has to be making your own solar panel. Unlike hydro and wind energy you will not need any special land requirements such as a stream, just a small courtyard or garden, or a roof and most of us have them.

How would your own solar panel work?

Solar panels use photovoltaic solar cells which can convert sunlight energy directly into electricity with the use of a semiconductor. These semiconductors are made of materials with special light capturing properties such as silicon. When the light energy is absorbed by the semiconductor electrons are knocked free, these electrons can then by guided by electric fields to power whatever is needed of them. It is a free and effective way to make your own energy.

What are the benefits of having your own solar panel?

If you want to make you own solar panel then you may want to know that:

  • You can save 50% or more on your electricity bills!
  • You may be able to sell excess electricity back to the grid
  • Photovoltaic solar panels take up very little space and can be fitted to your roof
  • The are fairly straightforward and easy to assemble
  • Even with cloud cover they will continue to provide energy
  • Your own solar panel is a completely green energy source with no negative side effects!

So is having your own solar panel right for you?

If you want to rely less on expensive power companies and more on an eco-friendly green energy resources then I’d say yes it is. I really think its a good idea to learn more about this increasingly popular energy source. Read as much as you can on how solar panels work, and take the first step towards making your own solar panel by following a simple solar how to.
